My grandfather had a couple of statues similar to, but less rough hewn and much smaller than, your fellow there, and as a child I called them "The Old Salts" and loved them. I rescued them (read: bought for a ransom) from a charity auction when my grandmother wanted them gone, and have them still. They're not art in any way, but they remind me of my Papa (he was a seafaring man).
Just so you know, there's a factory in China where 8-year-olds crank those things out, laboriously carving each of them by hand using only a chain saw and a butter knife. Then they're sent to Malaysia and painted by really talented 11-year-olds using the finest lead-based paints. Neiman's is all about quality, you know.
