This Is What I Call Commitment

Located by the Pacific Ocean, Santa Monica is where a lot of rich people live. Although there are fine restaurants, decent shops and the Pacific Ocean, it's not too exciting. You'll never read a gossip mag talking about the hot new club that just opened in Santa Monica. If you have to go there, a good 45 minute drive from LA, although in rush hour it becomes almost an hour and a half, then the person has to be famous, the sex worth it, and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
This is a place where clogs are still popular and makeup is not. Some B and C list celebrities like Kate Hudson, June Lockhart, and Jane Fonda live there but for all the rest of them, sublimation seems to be the order of the day. Check out this "I Never Made It As An Actor But I'm Not Going Quietly's" house.
Wouldn't you think this one gate would be enough?

Don't you hate it when you're wrong?

They should write numbers on the tiles and turn it into an Eye Chart. And give you a tab of acid first. And then sell you to a circus.
This part of the house is in an alley. An empty alley. Like where no one goes. Ever. This is the back of the house. And you thought you had OCD.

End of chat.

  1. We have several of those here in Houston: The Orange Show and The Beer Can House are probably the biggest two. We also have the world's largest Art Car Parade here. Of course, I realize that we can't out-weird L.A. but Houstonians are also artistic and weird ... and they're proud of it, too!

  2. WOW, suddenly, laying tile on my
bathroom floor doesn't seem like such a big deal anymore.
Actually, I kind of like the mosaic house.

um, Kate Hudson is not B or C-List.... She's "A" all the way, Suzy. How do I know? It's my job to know.

  4. Jami, I think I've seen that beer can house before featured on a tv show.

gm, I know what you mean.

Tommy, she's B list to me. Meaning she's no Julia Roberts or Angelina. But different websites have different criteria for A,B and C and none of them agree.

  5. I love the house too. I aspire to that sort of thing, but I don't think I have the talent or the time.

It's been done before -- called the Watts Tower, but it's in a VERY DIFFERENT neighborhood. Had we known about all this previously, we could have bought stock in grout products. BTW, which actor's house is it?
    Aloha,

    Hudson's totally B list.l

I think Jamie Lee Curtis lives there, too. I love her and her husband. (Maybe I love him more, actually.)

I wonder who did this--the homeowner or his/her paid lackeys?

  8. anne, the house is very colorful and bright and my camera didn't do it justice.

MJ, I have no idea whose house it was.

Surcie, yeah Jamie Lee lives there too but they're not real Hollywoody people. They're Hippie Hollywoodites.

I've lived in Santa Monica ever since I moved to California more than a few years here. I had intended on living in Pasadena because I saw it on TV and it looked so nice...because you know how TV portrays everything so realistically. When I arrived there it was summer and the temperature was a smog clogging 101degrees. After driving away from the oven and visiting a friend in Santa Monica, I was hooked.

SM's not a 45 minute drive from L.A. but traffic is a major consideration during rush hour...but then again driving anywhere in the greater L.A. area is. The thing I like most about Santa Monica is the air and the temperature...in the summer it can be as much as 30 degrees cooler than the inferno known as The Valley. I live close to the beach and the first couple of years I ignored it, but I know visit it just about every day.

But I appreciate your piece on the city because if you can discourage even one person from coming here, all of us Santa Monicans who get tired of people clogging up our fine village by the sea owe you a huge debt of gratitude. Nothing to see here, move along, Tom Bodett has turned the light OFF!

BTW, nice shots of my house. Oops...

  11. Brad, it's 45 minutes. And that's on a good day. The only time it's less is after 10 pm. I've been going down there for 14 years to visit my sister. I could drive there with a blindfold on. It's just too far a round trip without sex on the other end!

  12. It's reassuring to know that the degree in mosiac tile laying has come in handy.

And people said it wouldn't take me anywhere!!
