L.A. Sign Of The Times #52

This is Gower Gulch at the intersection of Gower and Sunset, right down the street from me. It's actually a Shopping Center. No one uses the word Shopping Center anymore. Now a small grouping of stores is called a Strip Mall. Even though there are no tassels or slot machines anywhere in sight.

This red car used to be a place where you could get keys made. Then some genius decided to close it up and uh, leave it there. Which is why people hate L.A. We're made up of senseless individuals and their key-making carts that have no customers.

Click on the label below to see other weird pictures of L.A. I've taken over the 3+ years I've been blogging.

In my defense, it seemed like a good idea at the time.

  1. I like #52 and #42. Suzy, is there anything good about LA? I mean, should I even bother visiting. -Pippi

  3. I think I could use some of that Gulch. Can you check and see if there are any leftover bottles inside? Thanks.

    S,
Let's let your readers know that Gower Gultch was, in the early days of film studios, the sleaziest area in town. So it would make sense that they closed the wagon and left...

  6. Long, long ago and far, far away, in a land known as "my youth" I lived on Beachwood Drive just north of Franklin. I think I remember that thing. Is the chicken and waffles place still around?

My friend, Fragrant Liar, said to stop by, but I'll come back all on my own.

  7. I always wanted "strip mall" to mean something else. America disappoints...

...then again, the word verification is "weeziest," and neither you or I smoke, so word accuracy is seemingly a national non-pastime...

  8. Yeah, strip mall never felt comfortable rolling off my tongue. Kinda seedy in a way. I prefer shopping center, anyday.

  9. HAH! Now I know where to stalk you at. You know ... that little cart reminds me of how much I wanted to live in a boxcar when I was a kid. Now you can actually build homes OUT of boxcars!

  10. That’s just like LA.

Always trying to entice me with false claims of medicinal ointment and senseless individuals.

  11. How absolutely retarded.

  12. I think the cart is the best sight at that intersection.

  13. Mystifying ointment? Only 5 cents? I'm totally not charging enough.

    Heh heh.

    P.s.
Did you see me in my HWHCTD t-shirt, or what?

  14. I know, it's so sad. With that wagon closed up where are people in LA going to buy their snake oil?
