From The Queen Of India

There is a movement gaining ground. PLEASE LISTEN.

Lost and Found in India by Braja

I read Liz's post yesterday about word verification on commenting, and I'm joining in. I'm tired of the time it takes to constantly type in stupid words to "verify" who I am when commenting on blogs. PEOPLE: TAKE IT OFF. We're blogging, not working in security at the White House. Sometimes it may be necessary if you're spammed, but having it on permanently is not necessary and it jerks some of us around a lot: I'm in a village in India, and my line is not good. Having to hit that enter button 5 or 6 times sometimes for your word verification is not my idea of a good time. Sorry to do this, but I won't be commenting on blogs that have it anymore. I don't need the angst. There's not enough Xanax in this village to aid with it...

Hey, bloggers love getting comments and readers like leaving them, so it's simple: make it easy...

I'm joining this. I will no longer post comments on blogs who insist on this very annoying add-on. If you get over 1000 hits a day, you need it. If you get 62 hits a day, get real. Delete your spam and take that verification off. I do, why don't you? AND I'M DOOCE, SO THERE.

End of chat.

  2. Suzy, I agree, it is very annoying.

There is another side to the story though.

MANY of my readers use it at the end of their comment as a closing "joke" when they try to use it in a sentence.

It has become a lot of fun for them and other readers and at times it has started an entirely different "conversation" in my comment section.

Next week, I'm going to write a post on the subject and will probably link to this post as well as Braja's, and then let my readers vote on whether it stays or goes. SO visit Monday to leave your vote, however, you must use the veri word to leave your comment. It may be for the last time though.

Will you give me one more chance?

  3. Already done per orders of Queen Braja. (bowing) it would take sometimes several times for mine to go through on some of the post. So I am loving the new movement.

  5. Yup. I hate that shit.
And also? The blasting me with music once I click on people's blogs. If I'm at work and trying to squeeze in some blog time I don't want to get in trouble because Kenny Chesney or somebody is singing about fleas.

Those verfication words are getting harder to read! Once it was just a case of typing in the word. Now the 'words' are a random series of letters, crossed out, distorted and shrouded in grey fog.

Sometimes you are offered an audio option (for the 'disabled' reader), but that often sounds like a leprechaun whispering in Greek on a runway.

    I give up!

  7. I don't use one. Of course, I get less than 62 hits a day!

  8. When your hands were first crapping out on you, you posted about this - and I actually gave it some thought and took the verification off. Yeah, I've had a few spams since then, but they're easy enough to delete...or better yet, to mock mercilessly.

Since I did it months ago, does that mean I'm finally a trend-setter??

  9. Everyone has to go visit Sherri on Monday to see what she's talking about.

The rest of you are brilliant.

  10. Somewhere back in the mists of antiquity, I proposed taking the verification "words" and writing definitions for them. It never flew. But then Sherri came along ...

I periodically have to put the damned things in - although I personally hate it - because apparently my blog has a big "SPAM ME" sign taped to its back. I'll take mine off again, though, just so you can comment.

  11. Amen.

Er, I think I have mine off. Don't think I ever had them on. But I'm the world's laziest blogger. Checking.

  12. I don't comment when they are there- usually. It's hard to read after a martini.

  13. Thanks for pointing out that you can turn the blinking thing off. Now I know.
