While we were paying for our Nook (purchased under the illusion courtesy of my husband that it was for BOTH of us, but I can't ever pry it out of his troublingly small but surprisingly strong hands) I asked the clerk how B & N felt about drilling holes in their own boat. I still like a real book, but I won't be like my in-laws with their wood-grain 8 track rack defiantly perched on top of the buffet next to the still functioning player. Someday an iPad type device is all we'll have. Just like on Star Trek. But I want a mini-skirt and go go boots, none of this monochrome jumpsuit nonsense.
my Borders, my sanctuary...my cozy chair in the corner, my free wi-fi,my best selection of poetry books in town ( which I purchased),my small community of people I greeted each week but never knew their names, My Seattles Best Coffee, my cute barista who made me feel every bit of 22 years old every time he winked and called me sweetness...CLOSED
I mourned the loss of our Borders. The staff was friendly and kind, they always had a good word and took the time to be helpful when it was wanted and left me alone when it was wanted. Some 80,000 of the 90,000+ thing I wrote were typed in the cafe. It's like losing a friend.
No sign of ours closing yet... hoping it hangs on. Love my Borders. Although there's an escalator in the B&N... It's the shallow things that thrill me.
Get your own tee. Only $22.00 no shipping or handling. Plus you get one month free advertising on my sidebar only it's not really free since you have to buy the shirt.
I'm a standup comic. My first book, Celebrity sTalker, is now available on Amazon. I've entertained the troops for the USO and performed in 8 countries and 24 states. I'm also the co-creator of Single, Married & Divorced. You might have seen me on Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

ReplyDeletePopular sign around here too - "closing - going out of business"
ReplyDeleteAt one time I was a supervisor for Borders and I know a lot of good people who are losing their jobs. This just makes me sad.
